All companies registered with the Companies House are obliged to file their accounts with the Registrar of Companies. It is the director’s responsibility to ensure company accounts are prepared and filed to Companies House on time. This includes dormant company accounts.
Failure to file accounts on time, your company will receive automatic late filing penalty of £150 for private limited company and £750 for public limited company.
The law also requires the directors to present their Directors Report to their shareholders. The directors of a public limited company must lay the accounts at a shareholders meeting, usually the annual general meeting and a private company is no longer required to do so unless it is required by the articles of association of your company.
Accounts filed to Companies House can be accessed by your potential suppliers, customers, bankers and the public in general. You may download copies of a company accounts from Companies House website at a small fee.
